Amazing Spaces: the Netherlands

In the Channel 4 TV program Amazing Spaces, architect and presenter George Clarke explores the extraordinary world of architecture. In addition to his focus on special architecture in England, Clarke also examines and analyses buildings abroad. In the Netherlands, he is primarily interested in experimental and innovative architecture.

In between the Dutch towns Almere and Zeewolde, Clarke checks out the Oosterwold district, where organic development is the central theme. In the 43 square kilometer area the municipalities only have  outlined the main the planning and is leaving the details of designing the housing as much as possible to the residents and investors. The intention is to preserve space for agriculture and nature in the innovative neighborhood. George Clarke also visits the floating sustainable neighborhood Schoon Schip in Amsterdam, a remote cottage with sliding roofs in the nature reserve De Biesbosch and a building in Rotterdam that is entirely constructed with recycled materials. To George Clarke the UK can learn a lot from the Dutch. Especially to be much more adventurous and to let go the rules and regulations.

Activities: advice, general research, recce locations, driving, organise extra driver/fixer and extra taxi services and accompanying filming.
