The legalisation of the Dutch prostitution branch

On the 19th of January 2000 the Dutch brothel ban was abolished, making the Dutch prostitution branch completely legal. The explanatory memorandum to the law lists several reasons: protection of the position of prostitutes; combating the exploitation of involuntary prostitution; controlling and regulating the exploitation of prostitution.

A little more than a year after the lifting of the Dutch brothel ban reporter Heidi Frank travels to the Netherlands to find out how the full legalisation of the Dutch sex workers branch is working in practice for the background reportage program Weltjournal.

She portrays and interviews an Amsterdam brothel owner, who already participated in the 1996 brothel toleration experiment. The brothel owner and some of the sex workers working in his company explain how they experience the new legal situation. Also a spokesperson from the sex workers lobby organisation De Rode Draad (The Red Thread) and a scientist who accompanied the realisation of the new law are interviewed about new legal situation.

For this reportage Featurez gave advice, did the research, set-up and planning of the filming, booked a camera crew and accompanied the filming.
