In the Netherlands unemployment is relatively low compared to the rest of Europe. In Rotterdam politicians even claim to end employment by forcing people to take a job or do a course. In Switzerland there are also plans to force young people to work.
For the Swiss public TV program ’10 vor 10’ Europe correspondent Christoph Nufer travels to Rotterdam to see how the employment policy works. He follows a street cleaning team at work and portrays an unemployed fire fighter that had to take the job of street sweeper. He also interviews the responsible Rotterdam alderman, and visits a job course centre and a supermarket where unemployed help to pack groceries for a small extra fee.
