ARD is a joint organisation of Germany’s regional public-service broadcasters. It was founded in 1950 in West Germany to represent the common interests of the new, decentralised, post-war broadcasting services – in particular the introduction of a joint television network.
ARD Weltspiegel is a reportage television programme on the German first public TV channel. Its title was modelled on the newspaper Der Weltspiegel. Correspondent reports from ARD’s foreign studios around the world are broadcasted on Sundays at 6.30 pm under the auspices of NDR, WDR, SWR or BR. In addition to the regular programme, the monothematic offshoots Weltspiegel-Reportage, Weltspiegel extra and Weltspiegel-Doku are also broadcasted, sometimes in loose succession.
