The Netherlands has by far the highest percentage of part-time workers in the EU. The high percentage of women working part-time has been explained by social norms and the historical context of the country, where women were among the last in Europe to enter the workforce, and when they did, most of them did so on a part-time basis.

The French economy is not doing very well and all though the Dutch economy is also not doing well, more people are economically active. This is partly because in the Netherlands a large number of employees having a part-time job. Especially women. Often mothers, so they can combine their part-time job with care for the children.

The news program from the French first TV channel TF1 produces a reportage about the Dutch part-time economy.
