Influence cocaine trade on Europe

‘Cocaine: Europe Under the Influence’ is an ambitious investigative documentary that explores the profound and growing impact of cocaine trafficking across Europe. This 90 minute prime time film, directed by Kamal Redouani and produced for France Télévisions (France 2), offers an in depth look at how this illicit trade is shaping European societies, threatening institutions, and endangering communities.

Cocaine trafficking is no longer a distant problem confined to South American cartels. It is a European reality. Criminal networks have established sophisticated routes and methods to flood the continent with cocaine, exploiting the openness of European markets, the connectivity of its ports, and the vulnerabilities of its financial systems.

From the southern coasts of Europe to the northern ports, the film will follow the journey of cocaine from its origins in the coca fields of Colombia to its arrival in European cities. It will reveal how this highly lucrative trade fuels violence, corruption, and money laundering across the continent.

In the Netherlands director Kamal Redouani interviews Dutch crime journalist and writer of the book ‘Mocro Maffia’ Wouter Laumans, an ex-corrupt Rotterdam in- and export company owner that was involved in cocaine smuggling, the lawyer of the crown witness in the Marengo trial Peter Schouten and ex-criminal Joop Gottmers.

Activities: research, setup, planning, accompanying filming, driving, interviews and translations.
