After the Dutch government made clear that they intend to come up with new legislation for help with suicide for people that want to die, ORF Weltjournal reporter Alexander Steinbach comes to the Netherlands for new reportage about the current Dutch euthanasia legislation and practice.
Alexander Steinbach already covered the – at the time – new Dutch euthanasia legislation in 2001, so he now comes back for the second time to find out why the Dutch want to change Euthanasia legislation.
The Dutch current euthanasia legislation only works for people that are seriously ill and physically suffer severely, but there are people that are ready with life and that want to decide about their own ending of life.
Alexander Steinbach interviews reformed Christian MP Kees van der Staaij, family doctor Gerrit Kimsma, spokesperson Miriam de Bonteridder and councillor Catharina Vasterling from the Einder Foundation, an organisation that gives support to people with the wish for a humane death, and a client of the foundation. For the rest he visits the Completed Life symposium in Utrecht and he portrays and interviews an elderly woman that is ready with life.
For this production Featurez gave advice did the research, setup and planning, the accompaniment of the filming and some of the interviews.
