Since every ten minutes a bicycle is stolen in Switzerland, the authorities decided to find a way to fight the theft. A possibility is to start the registration of bikes, just like cars.
In the year 2000, the ATC, the Anti-Theft Chip, was introduced in the Netherlands. Bicycles with such a chip usually benefit from a discount of a few tens of Euros on the insurance premium. Dutch Manufacturer Batavus was the first to apply the ATC to new bicycles. Since then, most new bicycles are equipped with an ATC that comes with a unique number, which can be detected by the police. The ATC number is registered at the Dutch National Road Transport Agency (RDW). The current RDW register hold around 4.5 million bicycles.
The background reportage program ’10 vor 10’ from the Swiss public TV channel Schweizer Fernsehen wants to produce a reportage about the Dutch bicycle chip system.
For this reportage Featurez did the research, the set-up and planning of the filming, booked a camera crew, did the direction and interviews and accompanied the satellite feed.
