From Brussels, Jacques Brel’s birthplace, to Roubaix, where he gave his last concert, via Paris, where he rose to fame, and Amsterdam, which he immortalised, everyone covers his repertoire. It’s an opportunity for unexpected encounters, like Kad Merad’s Ne me quitte pas or Thomas Dutronc and his friends singing Vesoul – “T’as voulu voir Dutronc et on a vu Dutronc” (“You wanted to see Dutronc and we saw Dutronc”).
We’ll be right in the middle of the flea markets of Brussels with the Souchon family, on the beach at Le Portel where Sofiane Pamart and his piano meet for a poetic sequence, or on the canals of Amsterdam, where Élodie Frégé will perform Amsterdam for the first time, mixing French and English with Charlie Winston. There will also be a number of nuggets to discover, including Abd Al Malik’s cover of Ces gens-là, Louane’s Prochain Amour and Imany’s If you go away…
For a special cultural show about Jacques Brel for the public TV broadcaster French Television, some sequences need to filmed in Amsterdam. For this research needs to be doen to find a location that the crew can use as a base, to put on make up and store equipment. Also vans and local drivers might be needed.
