The Mark Standen case

In 2011 the documentary program Four Corners from the Australian public broadcaster ABC reported on a Dutch National Crime Squad  and Australian Federal Police joint police operation into the notorious Dutch Haklander syndicate. The Dutch authorities provided information to the Australians that eventually led to the arrest and conviction of one of Australia’s most senior police, Mark Standen. As well as the arrests of 12 people in the Netherlands.

Because Standen served his sentence and will be released Four Corners wants to find out if he was involved in other drug importations with his Dutch connections prior to 2007. The Australian authorities have always claimed he was involved in only a one-off case, but the program has evidence that this is not correct. Connecting him with prior crimes in Holland would be powerful additional evidence for an new documentary, so research in the Netherlands is needed and a policeman and a public prosecutor need to be tracked down.

Four Corners is an Australian investigative journalism/current affairs documentary television program. Broadcast on ABC TV, it premiered on 19 August 1961 and is the longest-running Australian television program in history. The program is one of only five in Australia inducted into the Logie Hall of Fame.
