Poverty in the Netherlands

Since the Dutch bishop Muskens stated in an interview: ‘When you really cannot afford it, you should be allowed to steal bread from a bakery’, poverty is an hot item in the Netherlands. A huge demonstration against poverty is organised in The Hague and talks are held between prime-minister Wim Kok and bishop Muskens.

An in depth interview with the bishop and a portrait of a family kicked out of their house after loosing their job, picking up the pieces in a reception centre of the Salvation Army in Amsterdam.

In the rich Dutch economy more and more specifically elderly, unemployed and single mothers miss the boat. A bishop puts poverty back on the agenda! An ARD Tagesthemen reportage.

Activities: propose item idea, research, set up and planning, accompany filming.
