Foot and mouth disease hits the Netherlands

After England and France, the Netherlands is the third European country that is struck by the devastating foot & mouth disease.

The Netherlands is a small country, but is the world’s second largest exporter of agricultural products, with hyper-intensive livestock farming. Pig density is spectacular: 705 per square kilometre. With such a concentration of animals, infection risks are very high. In the Netherlands, the turmoil is enormous.

The morning program Morgenmagazin from the German first public TV channel ARD wants research to be done in the Netherlands for life broadcasts from the German – Dutch border.
