Outbreak Foot & mouth disease in Europe

After England, France and The Netherlands, Germany is the fourth country in Europe that is struck by the devastating foot & mouth disease.

The Dutch Agriculture Minister declared strict measures to prevent the highly contagious livestock virus foot-and-mouth disease from spreading around the Netherlands and a total ban on the transport of all livestock, poultry, manure, livestock trucks, feed and semen applies throughout the Netherlands.

No milk collection is also allowed for days. Farmers are left with nothing but to drain the milk in the manure pit. From It is uncertain whether milk will be on sale in shops. Pork may become scarce after the weekend. Export of livestock and meat is banned. Farmers have been urged to visit other livestock farms as little as possible.

The program Report from the Austrian public broadcaster ORF wants to report from both sides of the Dutch – German border. In the Netherlands authorities, farmers and scientists are in the middle of a fight to defeat the disease. In Germany the farmers and authorities try to prepare for what is coming.

For this production Featurez gave advice, did the research, set-up and planning of the filming, booked a camera crew, did the direction and interviews, translations and organise Dutch TV archive video footage.
