The Dutch organisation Social Consultation on Payments advises to implement nationwide rounding off cash payments at 5 euro cents. This advice follows the results of the Eurocent Rounding Trial, which took place in the city Woerden from 26 April to 6 June 2004. Woerden is pleased with the results of the trial and the enthusiasm of business owners and shoppers in its municipality.
The trial was intended to show how consumers, entrepreneurs (shopkeepers, catering establishments and petrol stations) and banks react to rounding off prices. And whether the rounding off rule increases payment convenience for consumers and entrepreneurs.
The consumer program Markt from the west German TV broadcaster WDR wants to report about the trial and about the Dutch decision to get rid of the 1 and 2 Eurocent coins.
