Drive-in coffee shop in Venlo

The Dutch city Venlo decided to finally execute the plan to create a drive-in coffee shop at the German – Dutch border to fight the annoyance of especially German drug tourists in the centre of town.

The Dutch Minister of Justice is not very happy with the initiative. He sees more in border crossing German-Dutch police cooperation to fight annoyance by drug tourism. For this the police project ‘Hector’ was set-up in 2001.

At the same time some cities in the south of the Netherlands proposed an idea to the German cities nearby, to start coffee shops nearer to the border.

The program Europamagazin from the German first public TV channel ARD send reporter Eva Lodde to the Netherlands to report on the drive in coffeeshop initiative.

For this reportage Featurez did the research, set-up, planning and accompanied the filming.
