No Dutch referendum on new EU treaty

Just before the new EU treaty is signed, the Japanese NHK correspondent checks out why the Dutch government decided to skip a second referendum on the treaty.

The Dutch opposition is busy to organise support for a new referendum, while the Minister of European Affairs explains that for this treaty a referendum is not obligation and not necessary.

In a The Hague shopping street the reactions differ. Some regret the lack of a second possibility to speak out, others support the European cause totally. It seems the Dutch managed to sail around a sensitive issue, although the opposition still gathers signatures to organise a new referendum.

For this news reportage Featurez gave advice, did the research, set up, and planning, accompanied the filming, did vox pops and translations, organised extra archive footage, did the direction & interviews on an extra filming day and organised and accompanied the satellite transfer of the video material.
