Crisis in the Rotterdam harbor

Is the new generation in danger of being lost in Rotterdam. Has the city become a ticking time bomb? The city is largely dependent on its port and the collapse of world trade in the wake of the economic crisis is taking a heavy toll on the port.

‘As a result, Rotterdam will be harder hit than the Dutch economy as a whole’, Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb stated in an inauspicious message.

For a reportage for the background program ’10 vor 10’ Europe correspondent Christoph Nufer from the Swiss public TV channel Schweizer Fernsehen travels to the Netherlands to produce a background reportage. He meets an unemployed harbour worker, attends the start of the construction of the second Maasvlakte (extension of the harbour into the sea) and gets a tour through the immense harbour from a representative from the Rotterdam Harbour Authorities to see where the economic crisis takes its toll.

For this background reportage Featurez gave advice, did the research, set-up and planning, accompanied the filming and organised archive footage.
