A right wing party has officially requested a referendum to see if a majority of the Swiss are in favour of a new law to ban minarets.
Since the Netherlands is known to house a large number of mosques of which some have minarets, the EU correspondent Christoph Nufer from the Swiss public TV channel Schweizer Fernsehen visits Rotterdam for a background reportage for the program ’10 vor 10’.
He interviews Rotterdam inhabitants in front of the Mevlana mosque and he interviews Marco Pastors member from the Rotterdam city council for the populist party Leefbaar Rotterdam (Liveable Rotterdam) that was founded by the late Pim Fortuyn.
Christoph Nufer also visits that Essalam mosque, a mosque that is still under construction and that will be the largest mosque in Europe after its completion, and he meets and interviews representatives of the mosque and the Dutch architect that designed the building.
For this reportage Featurez gave advice, did the research, set-up, planning, accompanied the filming and did translations.
