On 20 April 2010 a disastrous oil spill starts off the coast of the United States in the Gulf of Mexico on the BP-operated Macondo Prospect. The oil spill that was named the Deepwater Horizon oil spill is considered the largest marine oil spill in the history of the petroleum industry
While the oil already flows into the Gulf of Mexico for many days the Dutch turn out to have a very effective system to clean up oil in open sea. The systems cleaned up most of the oil after the ‘Prestige oil spill’ off the coast of Galicia, Spain in November 2002 and the system is on standby in many European harbours.
American laws still block the use of the system. ABC News looks for video footage of the cleaning system.
For this news coverage Featurez did footage research and organised the video footage transfer.
