The Dutch face austerity

The economic and financial crisis has overthrown governments all-over Europe. In the Netherlands, the political parties have clashed over austerity measures. And while the outgoing government increases the retirement age and VAT, the Dutch are becoming ever more disillusioned.

The TV-program Euronews Reporter sends reporter Hans von der Brelie to the Netherlands to produce a background reportage about the economic and political crisis.

Hans portrays an unemployed skipper and his daughter, a freelance construction worker and a construction worker that just has been fired.

Two Dutch economists gives their pro- and anti-Europe and Euro views and in the Dutch money museum a curator explains the history of the previous monetary unions and former Dutch treasurer Cees Maas explains that the Euro is not in a crisis, but the European states are – because they have spent too much.

At the end also outgoing Dutch finance minister Jan Kees de Jager explains that the Dutch will meet the 3% deficit rule and will work hard to keep the triple A status.

For this background reportage Featurez gave advice, did the research, set-up and planning of the filming, booked a camera crew, accompanied the filming and did the translations.

This background reportage is published on the Featurez.com video page.
