In the Netherlands there are six million more bicycles than inhabitants. Nevertheless, many cars clog the densely populated cities.
As the problem is likely to worsen over the coming years, the Dutch government now wants employers to pay their employees a kilometre allowance if they come by bike. Also the national and regional authorities decided to invest an extra 200 million in bicycle infrastructure.
