Serres Séparées is a Covid-19-inspired extension of the Amsterdam art centre Mediamatic’s restaurant. Waterfront greenhouses have been transformed into private dining rooms. The name was inspired by the French chambre séparée; a room in a bar or restaurant that suggests a sexy form of intimacy. The plant-based food is served on specially designed shelves, allowing the waiters to keep their distance.
The contrast between private and public makes the dining experience a reinterpretation of the feeling of safety and togetherness. Mediamatic claims a pioneering role with this concept, including by sharing the project’s knowledge online.
The Japanese public broadcaster NHK wants a full report of this experiment including interviews with guests, the owner and the cooks.
For this reportage Featurez gave advice, did the research, setup and planning of the filming, booked a camera crew and did the direction, interviews and translations.
