After Russia invaded Ukraine, the Netherlands wants to become less dependent on gas from Russia. The Dutch government is taking measures to end the import. Governments, households and companies can do their bit by using less energy and extra LNG terminals are purchased and transported to a harbour in the North of the Netherlands.
Europe correspondent Yasuko Takeda comes to the Netherlands to cover the Dutch government’s plan to stop importing raw materials from Russia by the end of the year. She interviews the chairman from the Dutch Association of Commercial Energy and water Users and checks out the LNG terminal in the harbour of Rotterdam.
She also travels to the Dutch province Groningen to portrait an elderly couple that suffered from the earth quakes caused by the gas extraction, interviews a professor specialised in energy economics, and she visits the Dutch island Schiermonnikoog that is protesting against the plan to extract gas from the North Sea.
