PROFESSORS BRING GENE FACTORY TO STOCK EXCHANGE
Nine years ago a few Dutch scientists erected the company Amsterdam Molecular Therapeutics (AMT). Besides the largest hospital in Europe, the Amsterdam Medical centre, a special gene factory was build.
First the investments were covered by special scholarships and subsidies, but lately also participation companies started investing large amounts. A few days ago the AMT went to the stock exchange to pick up 46 million euro investment money. The money will be used for
growth in the development of gene technology: the promised land of the bio tech industry.
In short: AMT fabricates genes in a lab to use them for people that have heredity diseases, and where some of the genes have deficiency. One therapy is already very successful, a few more are in the pipeline. One of the AMT directors: ‘I do not worry about the pipeline. The number of possible products is huge. There are a lot of diseases with a genetical origin. We specialise in making the technology perfect and to improve the way the genes are produced and administered.’ more features
