BETANCOURT URGES DUTCH GOVERNMENT TO TALK TO FARC
Former FARC hostage Ingrid Betancourt has said the Dutch government should try to establish contact with the rebel group to find out the whereabouts of Dutchwoman Tanja Nijmeijer. She joined the FARC as a student and may have fallen into disfavour with the leadership, putting her life at risk.
Ms Betancourt appeared on the current affairs programme Nova last Thursday saying she is very concerned about the young Dutch woman who became a FARC rebel out of sympathy with the movement in 2002.
Last year, Ms Nijmeijer's diary was discovered, which contained passages criticising the rebel group. "If the FARC gets the feeling that Tanja has betrayed the organisation, then she's dead", Ms Betancourt said on Nova. read more (radionetherlands.nl)
